Cans and lids supplied by Hart Print contain either an epoxy or second-generation BPA-NI (Bisphenol A Non-Intent) inner coating suitable for isotonic drinks, aka drinks containing minerals.

Epoxy-lined cans are used by default as they are the most robust option, but depending on laws in your distribution region you may need BPA-NI-lined cans. Cans coated in BPA-NI do not have BPA intentionally added during the manufacturing processes.

# Why is choosing the right liner important?

Beverages with ingredients or properties that are too aggressive for aluminum cans or that react poorly with the liner can lead to interactions between the liquid and aluminum. This may result in pinhole leaks, reduced shelf life, or changes to the taste of the drink.

# Corrosion: Why it's a risk that can't be ignored

Corrosion is a frequent cause of leakers. The primary leakers are the cans that have the root defect and initially leaks, usually from material defects, such as leaking seals, pinholes due to corrosion or manufacturing defects, etc. The secondary leakers are caused when the product is exposed to humidity and the outside of the good cans is attacked by corrosion - first within the case, and then the adjacent and below cases. It is not a single ingredient or parameter that will cause these issues, but instead a combination of the below elements:

Although our cans are fully lined on the inside, the outer **bottom** of the can is not, and exposure to moisture can cause secondary corrosion.

Corrosion can be limited by filling the cans with a product compatible with the selected liner and adhering to good manufacturing practices during packaging (such as ensuring cans are fully dry, removing damaged product, ensuring seams are within specifications, etc.).
